‘00 Santa Cruz Heckler - RacerXti
History
This Santa Cruz Heckler was hand built in Santa Cruz, CA in the summer of 1999. The Heckler was a beefy version of the company’s Super Light.
My Heckler was custom built by Speed Goat bicycles, and included the very best parts available that year. It was built as a light free-ride bike, to handle stunts, downhills, and rough terrain. As I began riding more epic distance rides, the extra weight and beefy downhill equipment was more of a liability then benefit, and had to go. It was re equipped with carbon/ti parts, and air suspension.
In 2005 my heckler was replaced by a Custom built Titanium Racer X 100. Most of the Racer X’s parts were taken from the Heckler, and was prepped for auction on ebay. As I watched the market for these old Hecklers, I decided It wasn’t worth selling (due to little or no monetary value).
In 2008, I was been bitten by the downhill bug, and need a beefy bike to ride some easy downhill runs at keystone. I searched my inventory and pieced nearly a complete bike together.
Downhill performance wasn’t stellar, and going to bike parks was a passing fad. During 2009, the Heckler spent most days hanging from ceiling in my shop. My brother-in-law rode this bike the week he came out to visit. I also rode the heckler one evening when my Titus wasn’t ready to go.
Due to a lack of use, in Fall 2009, I will be cannibalizing the Heckler to build up my new 9:Zero:7 snow bike. The Heckler will spend the rest of its days hanging from my wall.
