‘09 Novara Safari - RacerXti
History
In early 2009 I purchased the REI Novara Safari as a on/off road commuter. The Novara Safari for years has been a one of a kind fat tire touring bike. Only recently been joined by other manufactures in this genre. In 2009 the Large and XLarge sized bikes came with 29″ wheels, which was a huge selling point for me. I’ve upgraded many of the parts on the bike, including brakes, shifters, and handlebar. These small changes has made the bike more reliable and comfortable.

I’m interested in finding out whether you tried putting on a skinnier tire onthe Safari. I’m planning on riding hte Safari on an upcoming (June 2010) bike the colorado rockies tour. I will not have it loaded with anything, but want the low gearing for climbing the hills. I put 700×32 Victorio tires on the bike for a 1200 bike tour in Florida, but was thinking of going skinner in order to reduce rolling resistance and put on Continental Gatorskin 700×28 tires. Any thoughts on how this bike will hold up with skinnier tires?
